Download FiveM only from FiveM.net, the official Cfx source. Do not use mirrors, repacked installers, or executable files shared in videos, forums, or chat servers. The official FiveM installation documentation is the reference for the steps below.
Before you download FiveM
- Use a Windows PC that meets the requirements listed on FiveM.net.
- Install and update a legitimate PC copy of GTA V before starting the FiveM setup.
- Keep enough free storage for GTA V, the FiveM client, updates, and server-downloaded assets.
- Close GTA V and its launcher before running the FiveM installer.
Use the official FiveM download
- Open FiveM.net in your browser.
- Select the download for the GTA V edition you actually own and have installed.
- Read the license notice shown by the official page, then download
FiveM.exe. - Check that the browser download came from the official FiveM page. If it came from anywhere else, delete it and start again.
Install FiveM on Windows
- Run the downloaded
FiveM.exe. - If you start it inside an empty folder, the official documentation says FiveM installs there. Otherwise, it uses
%localappdata%\FiveM. - Allow the client to finish its setup and updates without moving or renaming files mid-process.
- Start FiveM from the Windows Start menu after installation completes.
Select the correct GTA V installation
If FiveM asks for the GTA V folder, choose the root folder of the installed edition you intend to use. Do not select a downloads folder, a shortcut, or a random subfolder. If you are unsure which copy is current, open its launcher first, finish the game update, close it, and then repeat the FiveM setup.
Complete the first launch
Let the client finish any required update or game validation. Do not copy client files into the GTA V directory: FiveM is designed to run separately from the base game installation. Once the client opens normally, use its server browser to choose a server and follow that server’s own onboarding rules.
Troubleshoot the installation safely
- The installer does not open: download a fresh copy from FiveM.net and confirm Windows finished the download.
- GTA V is not found: confirm the game is installed and updated, then select the correct GTA V root if prompted.
- An antivirus warning appears: do not disable protection or add a blanket exclusion. Follow the official documentation and submit a support ticket if the official client is being blocked.
- The client stops during setup: close it, check available storage and Windows updates, then retry with a fresh official download.
