New reports suggest GTA 6 will target 60 FPS on PS5 Pro hardware, with a potential May 2026 release window. Here's what the technical analysis reveals.

Sony's PS5 Pro launch has reignited the performance conversation around GTA 6. Can Rockstar's next open-world epic hit 60 frames per second on console hardware? Early analysis suggests yes β€” with caveats.

The 60 FPS Question

Console gamers have been trained to expect 30 FPS as the standard for massive open-world titles. GTA V ran at 30 FPS on PS4 and Xbox One. Red Dead Redemption 2 targeted 30 FPS on those same consoles and held steady. But the PS5 Pro, with its enhanced GPU and AI-driven upscaling via PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), changes the calculus significantly.

Industry analysts and leakers with proven track records suggest that Rockstar is targeting a 60 FPS performance mode for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro. This would use dynamic resolution scaling, PSSR upscaling, and potentially reduced crowd density or draw distance compared to a 30 FPS fidelity mode. The base PS5 would offer the same dual-mode setup but with lower internal resolutions and more aggressive upscaling.

The May 2026 Window

Multiple sources now converge on a May 2026 release window. This timeline aligns with:

  • Take-Two's revised fiscal guidance
  • Rockstar's historical preference for spring or fall launches
  • The marketing runway needed after Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 drops
  • The PS5 Pro install base growth necessary to make 60 FPS a meaningful selling point

A May release would give Rockstar the holiday-free launch window they have historically preferred for their biggest titles. It also avoids competing with annual sports titles and Call of Duty in the fall.

What Performance Means for FiveM

For FiveM, GTA 6's performance profile directly impacts the modding experience. Higher frame rates mean:

  • More overhead for complex scripts and mods without tanking client performance
  • Smoother gameplay in crowded roleplay scenarios with 64+ players
  • Better streaming performance when loading custom assets like MLOs and vehicles

If Rockstar ships GTA 6 with a stable 60 FPS mode, the FiveM community benefits enormously. Script-heavy servers with custom assets, realistic AI, and high player counts would become viable on a wider range of hardware.
