Do not start by deleting every FiveM folder. Record the exact error, decide whether it affects one client, one server or every server, and change one variable at a time. The same wording can have different causes, so this page maps symptoms to evidence rather than promising one universal fix.
Source review: updated 17 August 2026 from the official Cfx.re client-issues guide. Never share crash archives publicly before checking them for identifiers and private server data.
Five-minute diagnostic flow
- Copy the full error and note what changed immediately before it began.
- Launch GTA V once from its official launcher, then close it.
- Test a second FiveM server. If only one fails, investigate that server or resource first.
- Remove VPN, overlay and graphics-injector variables temporarily; do not uninstall unrelated software yet.
- Use the official Cfx.re support steps and capture logs before clearing data.
Symptom-to-fix table
| Sintomo | First evidence | Safe first action |
|---|---|---|
| Required entitlement missing | Ownership account and launcher session | Sign in to the account that owns GTA V and launch GTA V once |
| Game executable not found | Launcher install path and successful GTA V launch | Verify files in the official launcher; see the executable guide |
| Stuck loading one server | Whether other servers work; F8 and server console | Utilizzare il loading-screen diagnostic |
| CitizenFX crash | Crash identifier and recent client changes | Remove injectors/overlays from the test and follow the official crash-data steps |
ERR_GFX_STATE or DXGI device removed |
GPU driver, temperature and graphics modifications | Test clean game files without ReShade or visual mods |
| Cache verification/corruption | Official support log and disk health | Follow the current Cfx cache guidance; keep the game installation intact |
| Connection timeout/handshake | Other servers, status page, route and server console | Test without VPN and compare another network before changing firewall rules |
| Missing VCRUNTIME/MSVCP DLL | Windows event/error details | Repair the official Microsoft Visual C++ runtime; never download loose DLLs from mirrors |
| Server resource failed to load | Server console and resource manifest | Verify dependencies, start order and the resource manifest |
CURL error code [number] (e.g. 28) |
Other servers, test server and VPN/firewall status | Try the Cfx.re test server; allow FiveM through the firewall and disable VPN for the test (official CURL-error guidance) |
| Game storage outdated | FiveM update prompt and download-space estimate | Allow the client update, then check the IVPATH= linea in CitizenFX.ini points at the current GTA V install (official guidance) |
Opening database (privcache:/) failed: IO error: could not lock file |
Antivirus interference and running FiveM processes | Close running FiveM processes and follow the official lock-file guidance; do not delete the game install |

What not to do
- Do not download replacement DLL files from an unofficial site.
- Do not disable antivirus permanently; use a short controlled test and restore protection.
- Do not delete logs before support has the evidence it needs.
- Do not clear server data when every other server works.
- Do not stack several “fixes” at once—you will not know which change mattered.
When the server owner must act
If several players fail at the same time, inspect server console errors, artifacts, resource changes, database health and network status. Roll back the last deployment when the timeline matches. Client cache deletion cannot repair a broken server resource or dependency.
Escalation packet
Provide the exact error, timestamp and timezone, client or server scope, reproduction steps, recent changes and the official crash/support identifier. Redact tokens, license keys, IPs that must remain private and personal identifiers before posting publicly.
